Days 7 & 8: Pat's Birthday Dinner
Disclaimer: All voyages in this blog are being taken safely in the comfort of our imaginations - based on our plans and intentions for travel in 2020. What is reality after all?
Did we mention that we'd arrived in Cuenca in time for Pat's birthday? We decided on a lovely restaurant on the top of the gorge (or hoz - literally a 'sickle') overlooking the Huécar. The Figón del Huécar is only a few doors from where we are staying, so a short stroll up the street:
I think we'd also eaten there on one of our previous stays in Cuenca. The inside was neat, but the real treat was going outside onto the terrace and getting a table there overlooking the hoz (gorge).
There was a view straight across, or along the cliff-face:
Mike and Maria turned up from Valencia to help us celebrate and recreate our youth and meals in Rome from many years ago:
The menu was extensive:
and the meal was great:
As the evening fell, the balcony became a great place for watching the lights come on:
and we finally left and wandered through the streets of the old town, until we remembered that we were actually staying just next door:
Happy birthday Pat!
