Days 76-78: ... and home

Disclaimer: All voyages in this blog are being taken safely in the comfort of our imaginations - based on our plans and intentions for travel in 2020. What is reality after all?

We finally arrived home in Melbourne safely this morning at around 6 am! It took us a while to get here from Frankfurt, with the flights leaving late on Tuesday evening and heading off on the long hauls into the sun across a full day and two nights.

Tuesday started with a late check-out from our lovely accommodation at Bad Berka and a farewell to our hosts who have become friends. It's about a three hour drive to Frankfurt, slowed down even more by the inevitable summer roadworks and a lunch stop at an anonymous roadside pizza restaurant in somewhere called Romrod:

The first stop when we arrived in Frankfurt was to drop Garry and Lawrie off at their accommodation, as they weren't flying out until the next morning:

From there, it was a short drive to the Renault agency return depot, where we dropped off the Scenic that had carried us safely from Madrid:

Farewell little (well, not so little) companion:

The depot provided a shuttle van to take us to the airport, also nearby:

So we never really got to see Frankfurt at all.

We checked in:

and decamped to the business class lounge for some food and relaxation before the flight departure at 6.25 pm:

The first leg was a short one from Frankfurt to Zurich - as we were flying again with Swiss Airlines. But this leg was provided by Lufthansa and their business class was simply a row of 'ordinary' seats, with the middle one not allocated:

Thankfully it was a flight of less than an hour.

At Zurich, again we took advantage of the business class lounge during the three hour layover (shortened by the long walks in the airport):

Then it was on the long haul back home, with thankfully more space and comfort in the larger plane:

So here we are - smoothly back into Melbourne (the airport was very quiet), and now into self-quarantine for six weeks. It's almost as if we never left and have been here all that time!

But what an epic trip ... as one of the regular readers of this blog announced.

Where and when shall we go next?
